The Uttermost

Num 11:1  And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
Num 11:2  And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
Num 11:3  And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

Uttermost is an interesting word. When the people complained, the fire of the LORD, his judgement reached to the uttermost parts of the camp. Strong's concordance gives the meaning of "uttermost" as the end, the extremity; the border, the outskirts; the whole and the end. I see this as the fire of God, his chastisement reaching to every complainer. The LORD does not like complainers, those who demand their own way. We have complainers today that organize to spread their complaints and unrest among the people. It worked in the 1960's and now that these are in the ruling class, they seek to bring more complaining groups. The aim is to divide the people, to cause unrest and to rebel against the established authority. This leads to the downfall of a people and a return to slavery. Do you want to be in bondage? In Christ we are called to freedom.

Joh 8:34  Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Joh 8:35  And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
Joh 8:36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Jesus came to save that which was lost. A free people remains free by following the commands of the LORD. Moses was the intercessor for his people and when he prayed, the fire of the LORD was quenched. Jesus is our intercessor today . He saves the lost who come to him. Jesus is also our great high priest who makes intercession for us.

Heb 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

He is able to save to the uttermost. I like that use of the word "uttermost." God is able to bless his people abundantly through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, no one is beyond his reach. Do not complain, but call upon the LORD in faith knowing that Jesus intercedes for us and we can also pray for others who need his touch.
