The Gift of God

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We are born with an eternal soul and a conscience to know right from wrong. Life can harden the heart; we learn to rely on self or worse to blame others for the problems of life. There will be problems, but God has given us a way to live above our problems and to give meaning to life. The answer is to come to Jesus with a humble heart and ask him to forgive you of your sins and to give you eternal life with him. You cannot earn favor with God apart from his son who he sent to be the payment for your sins.

A badly abused lady said that she could be hurt in body but her soul was safe in a hiding place in God. Jesus is the savior of our souls.

Mat 11:28  Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Be Faithful Unto Death

Rev 2:8  “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.

Rev 2:9  “‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

Rev 2:10  Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Rev 2:11  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’

Those of the church in Smyrna who would not say that Caesar is Lord and burn incense to him were persecuted. Their jobs were taken away, they were in extreme poverty and some had great fear, even death in the arena. Jesus spoke through the prophet John that he saw and commended them. They were spiritually rich. Their time in jail would be ten days and if they died that they would receive a winners crown from Jesus who is the first and the last. The Alpha and the Omega. Those who conquered by faith to the end would not be judged and suffer a second death. They would live forever in the eternal kingdom of God. Another reference that seems to reinforce suffering for Christ is in 1 Peter.

1Pe 4:1  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

1Pe 4:2  That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

Our faith in Jesus should be greater than our comfort. If we suffer for the defense of the gospel, then we are in his will and are not sinning by disobeying him. We live in crazy times and towards the end of the age people will have to worship the Antichrist in order to sell or trade. They would be given the mark of the beast, 666.  We should learn to stand up for what is right and not give in to tyranny. Speak the truth in the spirit of love.

No Time To Go Away

John 6:63  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Joh 6:64  But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)

Joh 6:65  And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”

Joh 6:66  After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.

Joh 6:67  So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?”

Joh 6:68  Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,

Joh 6:69  and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

Joh 6:70  Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil.”

Joh 6:71  He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.

Peter answered Jesus' question; "Do you want to go away as well?" "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." He had the words of life and he was the substitute sacrifice to give us eternal life. No one else ever spoke the word of God and was raised from the dead, proving that he is the Son of God. Peter filled with the Holy Spirit spoke out following the resurrection of Jesus.

Act 4:8  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,

Act 4:9  if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,

Act 4:10  let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.

Act 4:11  This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.

Act 4:12  And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Only Jesus could give to us the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

1Jn 5:11  And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

1Jn 5:12  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Come to Jesus with sorrow for your sins and ask him to forgive you. Whosoever believes in him shall have eternal life.

New Life

John 11:21  Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

Joh 11:22  But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.”

Joh 11:23  Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Joh 11:24  Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”

Joh 11:25  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

Joh 11:26  and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Joh 11:27  She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Jesus himself would be raised from the dead into eternal life. Believing in Jesus Christ is the way to eternal life. Knowing that he is the way we come to him and are born again of his spirit. To be born twice means that we will only die once, but live with God's family forever. Jesus is our great hope,

John 14:1  “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

Joh 14:2  In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Joh 14:3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

Joh 14:4  And you know the way to where I am going.”

Joh 14:5  Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Joh 14:6  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Suffering Rejection For Us

Jesus was rejected and despised so that we may be valued and loved.  The plan from the beginning was that Jesus would die for our sins payment.

Mat 27:35  And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.

Mat 27:36  Then they sat down and kept watch over him there.

Mat 27:37  And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”

Mat 27:38  Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.

Mat 27:39  And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads

Mat 27:40  and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

Mat 27:41  So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,

Mat 27:42  “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.

Mat 27:43  He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Mat 27:44  And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

Mat 27:45  Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

Mat 27:46  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Jesus took our sins upon himself on the cross and the Father had to turn from sin, so God the Son suffered as a man so that we may live life eternal with him. On Easter Sunday he arose from the grave and gave us new life in him.

Heb 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Heb 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
