It Is Finished

For sixty years, Billy Graham preached the gospel, the good news that Jesus has forgiven our sins on the cross. He paid for our sins two thousand years ago. He paid for all future sins of those who trust in him and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Can we sin and not be forgiven? The only sin that cannot be forgiven is to not believe in the one who is the only way to God. Jesus finished the work he was given by God, His Father.

John 19:28  After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.”

John 19:29  A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.

John 19:30  When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

The Greek word translated, "It is finished" is an accounting word tetelestai meaning, "paid in full". The Son of God who had no sins, took upon himself all the sins of mankind. His death on the cross paid the price for our transgressions to satisfy the justice of God. Don't be looking elsewhere for the way to God. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6)

Billy Graham preached the cross from the first to the last sermon. He is with the Lord now in heaven. But, he is not finished preaching. His sermons and crusades are being replayed on the TV and Internet. People all over the world are hearing him, or reading him with subtitles and the same message is still bringing souls to Jesus.  Before your life is over, have you come to Jesus and repented of your sins? Don't let your life be over without the assurance that you will be with God for eternity. Come to Jesus now.

Bodily Exercise

I enjoy going to Seniors exercise class twice a week and playing chair volleyball. When I was a young man I tried to build strength in my body by lifting weights. Cancer came and surgery removed some muscles. I began to lift weights again and then cancer would recur. Surgery, Chemo , radiation. I would be weakened again. Every time I tried to build up my body, another bout in the hospital would reduce me to weakness. Okay, I understand that bodily training or exercise has little lasting value, I should be living a godly life, serving my Lord.

1Ti 4:8  for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

1Ti 4:9  Here is a true statement that should be accepted without question:

1Ti 4:10  We hope in the living God, the Savior of all people. In particular, he is the Savior of all those who believe in him. This is why we work and struggle.

1Ti 4:11  Command and teach these things.

1Ti 4:12  You are young, but don't let anyone treat you as if you are not important. Be an example to show the believers how they should live. Show them by what you say, by the way you live, by your love, by your faith, and by your pure life.

1Ti 4:13  Continue to read the Scriptures to the people, encourage them, and teach them. Do this until I come.

We are to trust God and seek him through Jesus for eternal life and life more fulfilling here and now.  We need to focus on the word of God and our obedience so that others might have hope in him too.

The Gospel of Eternal Life

The Jewish people have prophecies of a coming king who will establish an everlasting kingdom. This is the gospel, the good news, of the kingdom. There is another gospel for the Jews and everyone else; it is the gospel of eternal life through faith in the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul explains this gospel, that is our good news if we believe and receive this message.

1Co 15:1  Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,

1Co 15:2  and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

1Co 15:3  For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,

1Co 15:4  that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

1Co 15:5  and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

1Co 15:6  Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

1Co 15:7  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

1Co 15:8  Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

1Co 15:9  For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

1Co 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

1Co 15:11  Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Believe that Jesus came by the will of God his Father, to earth fulfilling the prophecies in the Bible. He came to die as payment for all the sins of mankind. Through Adam all have the sin nature, but through Jesus, who had no sin, whosoever believes in him will be saved from sins punishment. By trusting in Jesus he gives us power to become the children of God, living forever in the kingdom of God. We must trust in Jesus who died for us and is risen to eternal life. Trust in him to receive everlasting life. Ask him now to forgive your sins, turn from sin and follow Jesus through reading the Bible and by prayer.  He will work in you to do his good will. There is no fear in Jesus. He has done all there is to do to be saved, only believe.

Out Of The Heart

Pro 21:23  Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

James had something to say about the tongue.

Jas 1:26  If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.

Jas 3:5  So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

Jas 3:6  And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.

Jas 3:7  For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind,

Jas 3:8  but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Jas 3:9  With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.

It is the things in our heart that when spoken, either bless or  distress the hearer.

Mat 15:18  But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.

Mat 15:19  For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

Mat 15:20  These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”

Ask Jesus to give you a new heart of his love and truth. Then as you read the Bible good words will replace the darkness in the heart.

Commendable Character

My brothers and I, would often say witty remarks, sometimes with sarcasm, but it was never meant to hurt anyone.  Some may take a comment wrong, not as intended and feel offended or hurt. Of course we must be careful to not become offensive. We are at a time where so many say they are offended and they seek someone to blame. Perhaps we should look within and take our hearts to God in prayer?

Psa 32:1  A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Psa 32:2  Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Psa 34:13  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

Another word used for guile is deceit. A deceitful person, conceals or misrepresents something. When the phone rings, anymore it usually  is someone seeking to deceive you, misrepresenting themselves to steal from you. It is iniquity.

In the Bible, Jesus calls out to a man with no guile, no deceit.

John 1:47  Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”

John 1:48  Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

John 1:49  Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

Because there was no hardness of deceit in Nathaniel, he was able to see Jesus as he is; the Son of God and the everlasting king of Israel.

Jesus loved the innocence of a child.

Mat 18:2  And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them

Mat 18:3  and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 18:4  Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

I will say this; be truthful and be kind and we will need the Lord's help to do this. When we leave his life and come face to face with Jesus will he say well done? He will if we have believed in him and received his promise of salvation.

Pleasing men or God?

If we really desire to share the truth of God, we must speak the hard things as well as the blessings.  To receive the truth is a blessing, even if it is not what we want to hear.

Heb 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Heb 4:13  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Some people will not want to hear the good news and they may be blinded because of their unbelief.

John 12:37  But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

John 12:38  That the saying of Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

John 12:39  Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

John 12:40  He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

John 12:41  These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

John 12:42  Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

John 12:43  For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Do not allow yourself to be blinded. Seek God and he will come to you. The door to the Father is through Jesus, his Son. If you are still reading, I commend you. The Bible says that we are to confess faith in Jesus before men.

Rom 10:8  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

If you are still reading it is a good sign that you are saved or are willing to be saved. Praise God.

Lord. I repent of my sins and ask you to forgive me and to make me a child of God, through faith in Jesus Christ. I believe and desire to receive your salvation. Thank you LORD God.

JUST AS I AM

A More Abundant Life

John 10:9  I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

John 10:10  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 10:11  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

John 10:12  He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.

John 10:13  He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

John 10:14  I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,

John 10:15  just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jesus is the door that we enter to be saved. The thief is the devil that desires to steal, kill and destroy us.  Jesus came to bring to us life more abundant.  When I was in the hospital, I was weak, having no strength to even drink water.  In a dream he said to me, if you do not drink water you will die. Immediately, I set up and drank a glass of water. He touched me and gave me new life, both physically and spiritually. I knew he was my salvation.

He made me more alive, the King James Bible says he quickens our mortal bodies. He gives abundant life to us.

Rom 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Jesus offers living water to us.

John 4:10  Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

One way the devil comes to destroy us is by lying. If we believe his lies we listen to the wrong voices.  I thank God for his word and his Spirit to be able to discern the voices. We must learn the voice of our Saviour who gives to us abundant life. A good friend brings life to us. Our enemies are the world system, our flesh nature and the devil. God wants to encourage us to have a more abundant life and to share this new life with others. The way to God is through His Son. Jesus is the door to a new abundant life. Repent of your sins and allow him to be your master and your friend.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus

The Way of Love

I am not too sure how I began to go to a church. I had a friend who invited me as a seventeen or eighteen year old.  Another friend's father was a teen Sunday school teacher. In that class we were given an assignment to each find a verse in the Bible to share the next week. I was excited because I found this chapter in 1Corinthians13 to share!  As I shared this chapter, the teacher in what I felt was a condesending way, replied, "Oh yes the love chapter, we all know that chapter. My joy turned to shame. I was not in the know, as the others were. I did not return to that class or to church very much at that time. But God led me to read that chapter and he soon would show me his love as he came to me a year later in a dream as I lay in a hospital bed. He gave me himself. I had new life and I had been given his love to share with my family and others in that hospital. God cares for us and he loves us. After this my entire family were baptized in that church. Here is the love chapter.

1Co 13:1  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

1Co 13:2  And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

1Co 13:3  If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

1Co 13:4  Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant

1Co 13:5  or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

1Co 13:6  it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

1Co 13:7  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1Co 13:8  Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

1Co 13:9  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

1Co 13:10  but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

1Co 13:11  When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

1Co 13:12  For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

1Co 13:13  So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

We can read these words and yet say things that are so unloving. Lord may these words be deep in our hearts so that we may love as you do.

Be Patient

Patience is a fruit of the spirit. We continue in Faith trusting in the Lord.  In the last days many will turn away from God who once claimed to be his. Now is the time to trust in him more. Jesus paid for our sins. Repenting and making him Lord of your life gives you his power to continue.

James 5:7  Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.

Jas 5:8  You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Jas 5:9  Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.

Jas 5:10  As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

Jas 5:11  Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Jas 5:12  But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

Good advice, to be truthful saying yes or no when you could use language that is evil when provoked. Give me a yes? Now keep going, stay close to the Lord who gives us patience and love.

How Great Thou Art

Above All Things

When the first man Adam sinned he put all of his descendants under the curse of sin and death. God the father sent Jesus his Son to be the beginning of a new people who are forgiven of their sins who will inherit eternal life by trusting  in the Lord Jesus Christ.

1Co 15:19  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

1Co 15:20  But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1Co 15:21  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

1Co 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

1Co 15:23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

1Co 15:24  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

1Co 15:25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

1Co 15:26  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

1Co 15:27  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

1Co 15:28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Jesus, who came from heaven and whose Father is the most high God, he came to destroy the work of the devil. Sin and death no longer has power over those who are in Christ Jesus.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Softly and Gently

One of our friends died last week.  Warren was a gentle person and we all met together on Thursday morning at a restaurant for singing, fellowship, breakfast, a lesson from the Bible and then prayers.  We do all this in a one hour session. Today we sang this sweet old hymn. Jesus is calling sinners home to him for salvation and our home forever with him.

Softly and Tenderly

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He's waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.

Refrain:
Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.

Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.

Rapture

Those of us who have repented of our sins and have asked Jesus to forgive us and to be our Lord, will not be forgotten. He is coming for us. The souls of those who sleep, or who have died believing in Christ Jesus are already with him.

2Cor 5:8  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Joh 14:1  “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

Joh 14:2  In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Joh 14:3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

Joh 14:4  And you know the way to where I am going.”

Joh 14:5  Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Joh 14:6  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus will return in the air to call up his church, those who belong to him. This is called the Rapture of the Church. The Church will be caught up  to be with him. The word  "caught up"in Greek is harpazo and in Latin the word is rapturo, and from this word comes rapture. The  rapture of the church. The name "rapture"  is not found in the Bible, but the event is described in two places.

1Co 15:50  I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

1Co 15:51  Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1Co 15:52  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

1Co 15:53  For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.

1Co 15:54  When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

The Rapture is described again; It is called the pre-tribulation Rapture. It is thought to come before the final events of wrath on the world.

1Th 4:13  But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

1Th 4:14  For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

1Th 4:15  For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

1Th 4:16  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

1Th 4:17  Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

1Th 4:18  Therefore encourage one another with these words.

At the Rapture Jesus will be gathering the souls who were then dead and those who were alive and trusting in him. He gathers the souls and spirits of those who have died  and they are given spiritual bodies as he is.  I do not know how this is done, but he is coming for those who trust in him and who have been forgiven of their sins. No one of his will be left behind. He could come at any time. This will be a grand reunion of those who have died in Christ Jesus.

The Gift of Grace

We have been given a wonderful gift from God. Have you opened it?  Some open the gift and lay it aside.  A gift so valuable is often ignored and there is no thanking of the giver. The gift is eternal life through Christ Jesus. You do nothing to earn the gift of eternal life, only believe and receive. This is God's grace for you. You receive favor with God by accepting Jesus as your savior. You are saved from being rejected by God because of your sins.  Jesus spoke of hell, a place of fire and torment that was created for the devil and his fallen angels. The devil wants to give you hell by tempting and distracting you. I remember as a child thinking, "I will be good when I am older."  You may not have another chance, receive the gift of life in Jesus now. Jesus came to give you life abundant, now and forever. The devil wants to cause you to be in hell with him. The devil is not yet in hell, but that is where he will be going. The grace of God will save you from hell.

Eph 2:4  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

Eph 2:5  even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

Eph 2:6  and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Eph 2:7  so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Eph 2:8  For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Eph 2:9  not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Eph 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Amazing Grace

Going Through Trials

James 1:2  Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,

Jas 1:3  for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

Jas 1:4  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Truth is, It is God in you that gives us the ability to continue through difficult times. When we are born again, made new through belief in Christ Jesus we are indwelt by his Holy Spirit. He is our comforter and helper.

Through our Internet ministry we have led many to a new life in Jesus. Some of these people were held captive, under human bondage. By believing the word of God they were able to become free. The promise to them was this verse:

1Cor 10:13  No temptation(or trial) has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Trust God, by faith go through the trials, trusting in God and you will be free, blessed. and complete in him.

Just Deserts

Just deserts is a term not found in the Bible. Neither is the term, "pie in the sky". The dictionary defines :just deserts, as receiving the punishment you deserve. The Bible defines "just" as righteousness. No one is righteous of themselves.

Romans 3:23  since all have sinned and continue to fall short of God's glory.

Only by receiving forgiveness by faith in Jesus Christ are we declared righteous.

Romans 3:24  By his grace they are justified freely through the redemption that is in the Messiah Jesus,

Romans 3:25  whom God offered as a place where atonement by the Messiah's blood would occur through faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because he had waited patiently to deal with sins committed in the past.

What is meant by "pie in the sky". The dictionary defines it as an empty promise, a false hope.

The promises in the Bible are all true.  There is a place upwards that is heaven.  Jesus will return to earth in a cloud. The angels will separate the goats, unbelievers, from the sheep, the followers of God through Jesus Christ.

Php 3:9  ... not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith

Php 3:10  that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

Php 3:11  that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
