No Greater Love

What is Memorial day and why do we celebrate it?

It is a day for honoring the men and women who have died while on duty with the US military and it is a day where Americans pay their respects, often by visiting cemeteries or memorials. It has been my honor in past years to play patriotic music in a community band on this memorial day.

John 15:12  This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 15:13  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Families separated by war have much love for one another and prayers go out for protection. This is the love of families that increases in separation. Love of country, family and our way of life are some of the noble reasons for serving in the military.

My son Lance was a marine who served in the Gulf war; Desert Storm.

I had two brothers who were in foreign wars. Don served in the Navy in WW2.  Bill was in the Army infantry in the Korean war. An uncle lost his life in the Bataan Philppines during WW2. Only recently were his remains found and identified through science examining the DNA. Out of love and duty men and women serve in the military. Some do not return and some return with scars of body and soul.

John 15:13  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Jesus came from heaven, God in a human body. His great love for us, sent him to die for our sins.God who created all things through his son; he sent his son to be our substitute by paying for our sins in a human body. He lives forever and we live with him by faith. This is my memorial.

John 15:14  Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

The command of God is that we believe in his son. The devil is the ruler of the world. Jesus came to take back a people who love God and believe in his son. Our nature changes when we are born again in spirit.  He took our sins to the cross and is risen from the grave. By faith in him we become the people of God. The devil no longer controls us. Yes, I am a grateful friend of the Son of God. I remember what he has done for me and for all who believe in him.

What Shall We Do?

John 6:28  Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

John 6:29  Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

The world appears to be spinning out of control. Forces of evil threaten our nations future. People are fooled believing the lies of politicians and the news media. Where can you go to find help? You can't depend on your health and good looks.  I spent two days and nights with flu like symptoms. Getting to the end of self help can be a good thing.

With God all thing are possible.  We llive by faith in God. We cannot gain his approval by our efforts. We can only receive the approval of God by having faith in Jesus his son who provided the way to God and eternal life. Our faith in Jesus is accompanied by the grace of God. By his grace we can do good things and enjoy life.

Resist the Devil

James 4:7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

First we submit ourselves to God and through his  presence and  power we resist the devil.

To submit is to to be subject too, to be under authority and to obey God. To resist the devil, from two Greek words meaning to stand against. We stand against the devil in the name of Jesus. We stand submitting to the authority of God. Once the devil knows this, then he will flee.

Jas 4:8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Jas 4:9  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

Jas 4:10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Being in the past in control of everything, we do not submit to God. The devil has free access to us and often God is mocked and sin increases. This is happening when God is removed from society and humans play like they are gods. When we submit to God we come to him repenting and being sorry for our behavior. Repenting we come to Jesus, humbled before the Lord, and he will lift us up.

Having Jesus as our Lord we are forgiven of sins, we have his grace and through him we resist the devil and do the will of God to be a blessing to others.

Believe in the Son and Live

1Jn 5:11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

1Jn 5:12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Joh 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Joh 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (Jesus)

Joh 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The word of God is clear. We must believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God to receive eternal life with God. Indifferance and unbelieve will separate you from God forever. The soul lives on. God has sent his Son to forgive our sins, and we must receive his forgiveness. He loves us so much that he took our sins to the cross suffering, dying and returning to life to receive us and to be with us for all eternity. Thank you Jesus.
