Taking the form of a Servant

Php 2:6  who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
Php 2:7  but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Php 2:8  And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Php 2:9  Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
Php 2:10  so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
Php 2:11  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus had the form of God, before coming as a human baby. He was with God the Father at creation. He is the Word who spoke all things into being.  Picture this before you picture Jesus as a man. It was great love and humility to come to us taking upon himself our likeness. By doing this his blood was given for our salvation. He gave us his Spirit so that we would become in his heavenly likeness.  I always have believed that no good thing, no new promotion of work can be done without God. We cannot save ourselves by our own efforts. Jesus saves and all will come to him. He gives life eternal to those who come to him in this life. At the judgement seat of God all will acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. They will bow to him, but it is too late for them to be saved. They will be judged and condemned according to their works. No one can please God apart from Jesus. Come and bow to him now, asking for forgiveness and a new life. Salvation comes only to those who bow before him confessing their sins in this life.

Jesus I come to you believing that you died to remove my sins. I believe that you did this and ask you to forgive all my sins and to make me a child of God. I will serve you and ask help in learning about the things of God. Amen

The Same Mind

Php 2:1  So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,
Php 2:2  complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ,

We should be encouraged knowing that we have been forgiven of sins, been redeemed from the devil and belong to the family of God.  We learn to encourage ourselves in the word of God so that we may encourage others. We encourage one another by words and actions.

any comfort from love,

I love you dear one, and how we need to know that we are loved. God the Father showed his love to us by sending his Son. Jesus showed his love and obedience by dying for our sins to bring us into the loving family of God. Oh how we love him and we should love each other with this Agape, unconditional love. This should give us much comfort.

any participation in the Spirit,

The Holy Spirit in us guides us into all truth. He gives us power to use our spiritual gifts. He fills us with all the good things of God. We work together by his Spirit to bring others to saving grace.

any affection and sympathy,

This is the real thing, not pretending to care. It is the outpouring of love and care by the love of God to others in good times and in times of struggles.

...  complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

This unity in love and being of one mind is the Spirit working in and through us by the mind of Christ. He is our example of a loving humble servant.   He went to the cross to bring us together in one spiritual body of Christ. We belong to him and are to be like him as his disciples. Thank you Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for saving us and bringing us into the family of God. Jesus is the way to eternal life, we trust in His name.

Love, Excellence and Righteousness

Having missed my brothers' memorial gathering, my nephew came to my home and showed me the pictures that were on display at the event. We had a good time of fellowship as he is a fine man of faith in Jesus. The family of God is stronger and our love grows as we share things that are good.

Php 1:9  And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
Php 1:10  That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
Php 1:11  Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Abounding love, excelling more abundant love and more and more in knowledge and all judgment. We definitely need to know what is best for us as God's family. He will give us these things through the Holy Spirit of Jesus. We will be able to know what is worth while and what is not good, so that we may choose the things that are excellent with a pure heart. We are being filled with Christ and his righteousness unto the glory and praise of God. Truth is, that God sees us now through his Son, Jesus Christ. The world that has not seen Jesus in all of their learning and thoughts, may see Jesus in us. The Spirit of the righteousness of Christ, will bring truth and approval to the things that are good and excellent. We accomplish this as we join together with others of the family of God. Philippians 4:8 says it well.

Php 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

These things should be seen in us, so that others may see Christ in us.

Being Mature

Eph 4:11  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Our discussion in our chat room last night was, can we be truly holy?  We were in agreement that our holiness is being connected to Jesus Christ. We are to become more like him. The five fold ministries are to help us to grow in faith, to make us more perfect or mature. Understanding our position in Christ brings unity. The Holy Spirit of truth unites us in one body of Christ's church.  When false teaching comes our way we deflect it with the shield of faith.

I understand that tonight the president is to give his State of the Union address which will include a plea for unity. Our country is divided just as God's word divides truth from error, good from evil.  To be a holy people or a holy nation we are to obey the laws of God and receive Jesus as our savior from sin and it's punishment.  A person or a nation will reap what is sown. Let us sow to the spirit a good harvest of God's blessings.
