Fishermen

Luke 5:4  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Luke 5:5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Luke 5:6  And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
Luke 5:7  And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
Luke 5:8  When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Luke 5:9  For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
Luke 5:10  And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

Luke 5:11  And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

Before we can be fishers of men we must realize who Jesus is and we must humble ourselves before him, for we are sinners before a holy God. We are not to take credit for what God does through us. All glory is to God the Father and God the Son. Just as Peter obeyed and received a great catch, so are we to obey his commands. Just how much are we willing to give to God? They forsook all...and followed Jesus. The biggest fish that must be caught is a slippery one. We are that fish. Has Jesus caught you completely? You must be willing to follow him.

Mat 19:27  Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
Mat 19:28  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Mat 19:29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Peter thought that he had given all to Jesus and later bragged that he would never forsake him, but he then denied him three times. Jesus did not give up on Peter. We have a self centered society that has entered the church "it is all about me, I am powerful, I am anointed, I say do this"...Give glory to God. He is anointed, he through us does the good work. It is Jesus not me, not you. Give all to Jesus and follow him. I am glad that Jesus is in control. He must increase and I must decrease.
