Family of God

Mar 3:31  And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.

Mar 3:32  And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.”

Mar 3:33  And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”

Mar 3:34  And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!

Mar 3:35  For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

There is the natural family and there is the spiritual family.  Jesus identified more with the family of God then to his own flesh family. His brothers James and Jude did not believe in him until after his resurrection. The book of James and the book of Jude were written after they believed in their half brother whose father was God. Sometimes the natural family opposes the things of God. We are to love God more than the unbelieving family.

Luk 14:26  "If you come to me but will not leave your family, you cannot be my follower. You must love me more than your father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters—even more than your own life!

Does this mean we are to disrespect our parents? No, we are to honor them.

Exo 20:12  “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

By being faithful to God, then you might save your natural family in him as well. Jesus is the entrance to God's eternal kingdom.  We should be thinking about the things of God. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and he will bless you and your family.

Mat 6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
