The Ostrich

Job 39:13  “The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the pinions and plumage of love?
Job 39:14  For she leaves her eggs to the earth and lets them be warmed on the ground,
Job 39:15  forgetting that a foot may crush them and that the wild beast may trample them.
Job 39:16  She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers; though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear,
Job 39:17  because God has made her forget wisdom and given her no share in understanding.
Job 39:18  When she rouses herself to flee, she laughs at the horse and his rider.(ESV)

The LORD is talking to Job from the whirlwind. God is sovereign and he made all his creation unique, and for his pleasure. Here he describes the Ostrich. The wings wave proudly, but they cannot fly, nor are they like the Peacock for attracting a mate.  In my thoughts, the bird is a strange bird and like some people, rather gangly and not so useful, in comparison to others.

She seems to have no regard for her eggs that are left on the ground where they may be stepped on. I know that those eggs are rather large, but are vulnerable to heavier animals. She deals cruelly with her young. Well?  Many humans kill their babies or abuse them although they were created in God's image and for his glory and fellowship.  The Ostrich seems to have no fear, and God has given her no wisdom or understanding. Many humans are not too bright, but when they meet Jesus they are given wisdom from God that the wise of the world do not have. How many of the "experts" really know what is going on with this pandemic?

The Ostrich can kick with those long legs and when she decides to run she can outrun a horse!  "She laughs at the horse and his rider." Wow, what a creation. Glory to God, for he makes wonderful things.

Let us nobury (one's) head in the sand. To avoid, or try to avoid, a particular situation  out of fear. The phrase refers to the common but mistaken belief that ostriches bury their heads in the sand when frightened, so as to avoid being seen.

Blessed are those who dedicate themselves to truth and goodness and are the people of God. Some strange birds, some are wise people, and they make good friends. Arise people of God, people of faith, do not fear. Be what you were created to be. Let freedom reign.
