Salome

In referencing the name Salome, most references give the daughter of Herodias who danced for Herod who said he would give her anything she wanted.

Mar 6:22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
Mar 6:23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
Mar 6:24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Mar 6:25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
Mar 6:26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
Mar 6:27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
Mar 6:28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

History books give her name, as it was not mentioned in the Bible. There was another Salome mentioned in only two verses. Perhaps because of the evil associated with the name, it was not spoken often. It is a beautiful name. Salome means peaceful. Another beautiful name that was maligned was Judas, which means "he shall be praised."
In the Bible I often wondered why Zebedee was mentioned often as the father of James and John? His name is mentioned eleven times as the father of James and Joses (John).

Mat 4:21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

It is probably because the genealogies mention the father usually and not the mother. Who was the wife of Zebedee? It is mentioned in one of two verse with her name. The mother of James and John and the wife of Zebedee was Salome. She was one of the women who came to anoint the body of Jesus with two women named Mary.

Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Mar 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

I had to look hard to find who was the wife of Zebedee, the mother of James and John; Salome, a woman named peaceful.
