Pro 31:1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

Pro 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Pro 31:5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Who was king Lemuel? Strong's Concordance says that he was King Solomon. Lemuel means, "belonging to God." This was a descriptive name given to King Solomon, for there is no record of an actual King Lemuel.

Solomon built the temple of God that David wanted made. He also made all the vessels in it. The LORD spoke to him again.

Bathsheba was the mother of Solomon. Solomon's father, King David saw Bathsheba bathing from his palace rooftop. His sin of adultery with her and the murder of her husband by placing him in the front of battle, was a great hindrance to the family of David. Bathsheba is giving her son advice. Do not give your strength to women. The strength of Solomon was his wisdom and also obedience "belonging to God." Solomon's weakness was women, for he had many foreign wives and made them places of worship to their gods.

Soloman's divided heart resulted in the dividing of his kingdom. Beware of your lusts, for Solomon was the wisest of men, yet he fell into idolatry because he lusted after other things. Wine, women, songs? Over indulgence of the flesh can bring sin and bad spirits to keep you from God
1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
