Jesus Master

Master Teacher

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Remember the story of the rich man and Lazarus, the beggar? Both died the rich man went to hell and was in torment. Lazarus was above in the bosom of Abraham. The rich man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers to warn them of hell. Abraham said to him:

Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

Jesus begins to expound to the two disciples that he met on the road to Emmaus all the scriptures pertaining to himself, beginning with Moses and the prophets.

Expound, the Greek word diermeneuo, has the idea of staying close to the text, Letting the Bible speak for itself. A good teacher lets the Bible speak, not their own thoughts. Jesus is the Master teacher, and he still teaches through the word of God and the Holy Spirit.

What were some of these scriptures?

Starting with Moses

Deu 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

To Joshua, Jesus showed himself (before becoming flesh)

Josh 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
Josh 5:14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
Josh 5:15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

There are many other prophecies, such as Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22. Describing the crucifixion of Jesus.

One by one Jesus brought these scriptures from the old testament that spoke of him. They are there as proof to us and encouragement. What greater proof is needed then the teacher, risen from the dead?

Luke 24:28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
Luke 24:29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

Abide with us. We are to abide always in Jesus, by the spirit.

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Luke 24:30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Luke 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

He broke bread, he is the living bread from heaven, broken for us.

1 Cor 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
1 Cor 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

When they finally saw Jesus by faith, he was no longer visible in the natural. Faith does not require that we see him in the natural, we see with Spiritual eyes the things of God and his promises.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

The word of God still burns within us, the presence and power of God. Some are healed with a burning from head to toe; the mighty presence of the Master teacher, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Behold your master

Luke 24:33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
Luke 24:34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
Luke 24:35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

The two disciples who Jesus taught on the road to Emmaus, return to testify to the eleven. They spoke that the Lord had risen and had appeared to Simon, Simon was probably among the eleven as they spoke. They told him of Jesus, the Master Teacher telling them his story from the old testament and how he broke bread with them. Were the eleven believing these two witnesses? They had Simon Peter and the witness of Mary Magdalene, but still they were not believing.

Luke 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Out of nowhere Jesus suddenly appeared, saying Peace be unto you.
Luke 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

Luke 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

They thought he was a spirit, much like when he appeared in a storm walking on the sea.

Mat 14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Jesus was risen bodily.

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luke 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.
Luke 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

They examined the proof, the nail holes, left for them to see it was he. They were perplexed and full of joy, but still in wonder.

Luke 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
Luke 24:43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

He ate before them. This was proof his body was risen, does a spirit eat food? What about in our glorified bodies, not of flesh and bones? Will we be able to eat? I believe so, for their will be prepared for us a wedding feast.

Rev 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Mark 14:25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Jesus was risen in a fleshly body and is now at the right hand of the Father in his glorified body. We shall be like him, partaking of the eternal bread of life. Jesus is the bread of life.

Power From On High

Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Luke 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Jesus explains to them the gospel of salvation
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Repentance, a change of mind, and coming to Jesus for the remission of sins. This should be preached in the name of God, in Jesus' name beginning where you are and among all nations.

Luke 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
You have seen these things and are to be witnesses, but you will need God's power, the Holy Spirit.
Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

This power of the Holy Ghost came down at Pentecost.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This was not for show, nor an end to itself, but the presence of God the Holy Spirit, the teacher to be with you, giving you power to witness the gospel message and to serve him.

Carried Up Into Heaven

Luke 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

This was where the Mount of Olives was.

Mark 11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, ...
He lifted up his hands and blessed his disciples, one last time.

Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

Carried up into heaven, as the angels carry us to Jesus. Luke tells more of this time in the book of Acts.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Acts 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Luke 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

They knew he would return again for them. This is the hope of every age. And, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. (2Cor 5:8)

Luke 24:53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Not once a week, but continually they were in the temple, praising and blessing the Lord. We are in our temple, doing the seem. Everyday is a holy day unto the Lord, Amen.
