STRANGE FIRE

Lev 10:1  And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.
Lev 10:2  And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

Nadab and Abihu had barely entered their ministry as priests when they made a fatal mistake. They were to enter into the holy place of the sanctuary with fire from the altar, but they made their own fire another way, denying the holy way authorized by God. My first thoughts were that this could be applied to a lot that is happening in the name of God today. People who make their own doctrines, could be strange fire. The over whelming thirst for the "supernatural" has opened up things that are not of God to the naive seekers. Trickery, slight of hand, smooth talking messengers with their own thoughts of success and prosperity. Just as in the time of Jesus, many followed him to see the miracles and to eat the food, but they did not know him or wish to follow him in difficult times. Today we must follow truth by first trusting Jesus as Lord and savior and being filled with the Holy Spirit of truth. By the spirit are signs and wonders and discernment to know what is truly of God. The Spirit isn't necessarily an emotional frenzy, he may bring quiet and peace as well as joy and yes,  long suffering. May we serve him in holiness.

Eph 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
