Prophet

Deu 18:18  I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
Deu 18:19  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
Deu 18:20  But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
Deu 18:21  And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
Deu 18:22  When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Moses was the only one hearing from God at this time. When Moses was gone God would raise up a prophet to give the LORD's revelation to his people. He was required to speak what he heard from God without adding to it, it was to be the truth of God. Today if we hear from a prophet, we are to test his words, we know that his words must line up with God's word in the Bible. If a future event is spoken of, then the test is whether or not the event came to pass. He is not to speak his own thoughts. Jesus is the Son of God, yet he spoke as a prophet what he heard from the Father.

John 12:49  For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

I heard a preacher say of a prophet who prophecied in error, that he just made a mistake. The word says something else:

Deu 18:20  But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

One should not presume to be a prophet when he is not. I do not think there should be schools teaching people to be prophets. It is not of man, but of God.
