The Latter Rain

There was a large forest fire about 60 miles from us and it was approaching a town where several in our church had friends and relatives. They were in danger of losing their homes. Sunday we prayed for rain to put out the fires. By Wednesday the LORD sent rain that stopped the fire from destroying the town. It rarely rains here in August, but the LORD answered our prayers. We are to pray to the LORD and obey the LORD. so that our prayers will be answered.

Zec 10:1  Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

The latter rain comes in the spring and it gives growth to the crops before the final harvest in May or June. Although it is expected and normal for rain to fall in the spring, we are to ask God for it and not take it for granted. Spiritually, we are to ask God for his blessings and not to just take them for granted.  Now that we are in the last days, we understand the latter rain is promised to fall so as to equip God's obedient workers with the necessary skills to proclaim the  truth of God far and wide so as to assure a bountiful harvest for the Lord when He returns seeking His bride.

Jas 5:7  Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
Jas 5:8  Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

It is important to get our priorities right and to pray for all things good. Also pray for the lost, the afflicted and the persecuted christians. The Lord wants us to pray and to do his will. Is there any higher goal than to serve him?
