Apollyon the destroyer

Rev 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

The seventh seal is opened and the fourth trumpet sounded, a star fell, an angel with the key to the bottomless pit. This is probably is where the fallen angels are kept that were mentioned in Jude.

Jud 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Rev 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

The bottomless pit was hot, so it refers to hell. A physical place in the center of the earth where the angels were kept in bondage. It was exceedingly hot, but with no light, a place of torment for the angels and people too.

Rev 9:3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
Rev 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

Demonic creatures that John described as winged creatures sent to torment those who refused to come to God. Those with God's mark, His Spirit were passed over.

Rev 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
Rev 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

A period of torment, probably a sample of the torment that awaited them in hell. No relief, but this was only for five months. Perhaps they would repent after this? If men knew what hell was like, then they should desire the refuge of God in our Lord Jesus Christ. To the reader, these things are coming to earth. Hell's torment is forever, you do not want to go there

Rev 9:7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
Rev 9:8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
Rev 9:9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
Rev 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

Some attempt to explain these things looking back in history, but these are things coming to earth during the tribulation. No earthly king would spare God's chosen, usually the chosen are attacked and hated just as Israel is hated by the nations today. Those with the seal of God will not experience the wrath of God. Even the demons are subject to the LORD.

Rev 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

A ruling king came from the bottomless pit. I do not think this was satan, for he is not yet cast into the bottomless pit. This must have been a high ranking angel named Abaddon; in the Hebrew, "Destruction" and Apollyon; in the Greek "Destroyer".

Satan is loosed still, the prince of the air, going where he will. Notice the reference verse is 911, this reminds us of what happened on that day in 2001 to the twin towers. The destroyer now is satan, and he is described by Jesus our Good Shepherd.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

The thief is satan, he comes to steal, kill and destroy. We saw his work in New York on 911. We see him in those who strap explosives to themselves in the name of allah. He is a liar, a deceiver and only seeks to destoy, especially the people of God. We as a people of God have the Holy Spirit, sealed and the property of God. The devil may find a way to kill us, but not to destroy us, for we who are in Christ Jesus are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. We are eternally his. Our work will continue in his presence. Rejoice for we shall not see the torment of hell. We shall be with Jesus in a place prepared for us.

Isa 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Stay close to Jesus, watch and pray always for he is coming again for those watching for him.
