Bad Advice

Joh 7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

Jewry is Judea, the southern tribe where Jerusalem and the temple were. The Chief priests, the scribes and the Pharisees had plotted to kill Jesus.

Joh 7:2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
Joh 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
Joh 7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
Joh 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

"If" you do these things, the miracles, go show yourself to the world. Advice from brothers who did not believe in him. Be careful whose advice you follow. Earlier satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness with similar words.

Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Jesus rebuked him with the word of God; he fled but would return in another way. He had returned in the words of his brothers. Satan may use anyone to give you advice. They may appeal to your "rights", or your being a good Christian, but the advice may be destructive. Be sure that you hear from the Father, with confirmation of the Holy Spirit.

Joh 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.
Joh 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

To be loved by the world is not a good thing. They were as the world, full of sins, so that the world cannot hate them. I think of our world and how it is becoming more and more evil. Fornication, homosexuality, homes without fathers, drug and alcohol abuse, pornography, these are of the devil. The world says that this is okay, but the world will not tolerate a Christian who speaks the word of God. Jesus heard from God the Father, and spoke his words.

Joh 7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

He would go up in secret and openly teach in the temple. He also knew that he would be crucified, that was part of God's plan for him. He obeyed God perfectly and we are to obey him as well. Hear the voice of God and not the voices of the world. Walk carefully in a sinful world.
