Precept upon precept

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

A new believer must first be given the sincere milk of the word, the basic truths of salvation. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and is risen again, by faith we are saved by grace. Those who want to grow must learn more, for the Bible is God's word and promises. Through it we learn to live as his adopted son, being prepared for eternal life and our work on this earth.

1 Cor 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

We grow from being a babe by learning God's word.

Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

We learn precept by precept. command by command, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

This is a great truth to a believer wishing to grow as a disciple, but it was said by the drunken prophets and leaders, as a mocking nursery rhymn. They were too proud, too self righteous, as many today, they mocked the precepts and truths of scripture. They had hooked up with a demonic spirit promising them higher things and more indulgences.

1 Cor 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1 Cor 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1 Cor 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1 Cor 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1 Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

If they will not listen to the prophets then I will send the Assyrian invaders to you because of your unbelief. It is not a blessing, but a rebuke. How did speaking in an unknown tongue become the measure of spirituality? Speaking with understanding is better. To speak utterances in prayer or in worship; let this be done but in order. It is best done privately if not understood or interpreted.

1 Cor 14:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
1 Cor 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
1 Cor 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
1 Cor 14:24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

Seek not to speak with no understanding, but to be understood speaking the word of God.

Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

The rest, is in knowing God's truth in your heart; the word of God. The Living Word, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit and rest.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

These backsliders would not turn again to the LORD. They mocked him, some just are caught up in sin and do not know how to get free. Others are not sure that they can complete the course.

Gal 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? Gal 5:8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
Gal 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Gal 5:10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

As they mocked the way of truth, they continued to fall away, and were taken captive.

2 Tim 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2 Tim 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2 Tim 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We continue in the word, precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; if this is a burden to you, you probably are backslidden. Take heed and return to your place in Christ.

As a disciple and witness we will meet mockers, some were once believers. Continue in the word, discern their spirit, for some are sheep, backslidden who need to be returned. If we are not studying the word, precept by precept, line upon line, we have no fuel or power to reach them. Being a disciple, we grow each day in his likeness and in his anointing and His presence draws others to Him.
