Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram
in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great
reward.
Gen 15:2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
Gen 15:3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
Gen 15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
Gen 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
Gen 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
Gen 15:7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

The Covenant that God made with Abraham required only that Abraham believe
in what God said to him in a vision. Righteousness by faith in God's promises is
what is required to be a spiritual child of Abraham. The promise of a land is still active for Israel, the physical sons of Abraham. The spiritual promises require faith.
Heb 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could
swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Heb 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Heb 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a
place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out,
not knowing whither he went.
The LORD promised Abraham that his seed , his heirs would be as numerous as the stars; even though he and Sarah were past child bearing age. Abraham was promised a land as an inheritance, both a promised land in Canaan and an eternal dwelling place.
Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose
builder and maker is God.
The people of Abraham who would be blessed and shielded by God, were the
descendants of Isaac and Jacob. Those who receive the eternal blessing of life
and an eternal dwelling place with God are the spiritual seed of Abraham through
faith in his heir and Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. They shall be numerous
as the stars.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Father God, I thank you that your righteousness is by faith in your
promises, the promise of a Messiah, a deliverer. Jesus is our deliverer and
redeemer and by faith we receive forgiveness of sins and are made his
righteousness and eternal heirs with Jesus our Lord. Amen
