The time was one year after the first vision and the elders of
Judah who were exiles from Judah were now hearing his messages. He was
recognized by them as a prophet of God.
Eze 8:2 Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the
appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and
from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of
amber.
This was the same image of a man described earlier.
Eze 1:26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.
Eze 1:27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
This was not the actual throne of God, it was a
vision, an appearance, a likeness of a heavenly reality.
Eze 8:3 And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock
of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and
brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate
that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy,
which provoketh to jealousy.
Ezekiel was lifted up by the hair of his hair in this vision and
transported to the North entrance of the temple in Jerusalem. The vision took
place as he was in exile in Assyria. There he saw an idol placed in the temple.
The LORD will not share his glory with an idol. The affections of his chosen
people were on man made idols; this brought jealousy to the LORD, but it was a holy form of jealousy, as he felt the unfaithfulness of the people he loved.
One famous personality was offended by the Bible saying that the LORD is a jealous God. She became a cult follower, deceiving millions of her viewers. Her ignorance made her an idolater. Does God feel jealousy towards her? Or is she cast away as an infidel? I want the LORD to have jealous care for me, so that I may not turn away. Keep me LORD in your hand.

Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land
of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the
LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Jealousy between people can also be a spirit.
Num 5:14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his
wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be
jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:
What was the image in the temple? Some say it was Baal.
Deu 32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they
have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy
with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish
nation.
Or Asherah, a fertility goddess, Ashtoreth, queen of heaven
Jer 44:17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our
own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink
offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our
princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had
we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Jer 44:21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the
streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and
the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his
mind?
Jer 44:22 So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
Jer 44:23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.

Eze 8:4 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain.
The glory of the LORD would leave the temple.
Eze 10:16 And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when
the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels
also turned not from beside them.
Eze 10:17 When they stood, these stood; and when they were lifted up, these lifted up themselves also: for the spirit of the living creature was in them.
Eze 10:18 Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims.
Eze 8:5 Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.

This image of jealousy in the entry; or the image of this jealousy; the
image before mentioned, which provoked the Lord to jealousy; this stood at the
entry of the northern gate, which led into the inner court, and to the altar.

Eze 8:6 He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what
they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here,
that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou
shalt see greater abominations.
Eze 8:7 And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.

Eze 8:11 And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of
the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of
Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense
went up.
The spiritual elders were corrupted with idolatry
Num 11:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the
elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers
over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may
stand there with thee.

life.
1Ti 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and
of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
Woe to a church if the leaders are corrupted by the idols of the world around them. Worshiping an idol is an abomination. The LORD requires faith in his Son, and obedience.
