A Foolish Heart

Pro 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
Pro 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Let's go to the NAV translation

Prov 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Or you will also be like him.

Prov 26:5 Answer a fool as his folly deserves, That he not be wise in his own eyes.

Do not play the fools game. Some fools are worldly wise, but foolish in understanding God's word or way. If we answer them in their foolishness, they will only mock you and make sport of it. Often someone will enter a conversation with a question, but the answer they do not hear. We answer them according to wisdom from God's word and they continue with their own program to lead you away from God's truth or to mock you.

Every man should hear the gospel truth that Jesus has come to be our sacrifice for sins. He is our substitute, receiving our punishment of death for sins. He is also Lord having been raised from the grave and he sits on the right hand of God, His Father in heaven. Jesus is the way we are forgiven and through him we are given grace to become adopted children of God.

A fool is defined as stupid or silly. There is another kind of foolishness described in Romans.

A foolish Heart

Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Speak the truth in love. Pray for them that they may see the way of salvation and leave them to God who searches every heart and gives every person a chance to come unto him.
