Married to a fool
In the time of David there was a man named Nabal, pronounced Naval, meaning a "fool." When David and his men came to him asking for food, although he was wealthy he said no. David became angry and he and his men were going to kill "the fool" and all of his men servants.
His wife Abigail, meaning"my father is joy" heard of this, and she hastened to provide food for David and his men and to show them hospitality that her husband had refused to give to them.
1Sa 25:18 Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.
1Sa 25:19 And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.
David received the food. Meanwhile Nabal had prepared a feast for himself and his servants and was very drunk. In the morning after Abigail told him how she had prevented David and his men from killing him.
1Sa 25:36 And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
1Sa 25:37 But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
1Sa 25:38 And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.
David was so impressed with Abigail that he took her as his wife. I will end this story thanking my LORD that he gave me a good wife. She is with Jesus now enjoying his hospitality. For all you who have good spouses and who show hospitality, just know how blessed that you are.
