James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
First we submit ourselves to God and through his presence and power we resist the devil.
To submit is to to be subject too, to be under authority and to obey God. To resist the devil, from two Greek words meaning to stand against. We stand against the devil in the name of Jesus. We stand submitting to the authority of God. Once the devil knows this, then he will flee.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Jas 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Being in the past in control of everything, we do not submit to God. The devil has free access to us and often God is mocked and sin increases. This is happening when God is removed from society and humans play like they are gods. When we submit to God we come to him repenting and being sorry for our behavior. Repenting we come to Jesus, humbled before the Lord, and he will lift us up.
Having Jesus as our Lord we are forgiven of sins, we have his grace and through him we resist the devil and do the will of God to be a blessing to others.
