What is Memorial day and why do we celebrate it?
It is a day for honoring the men and women who have died while on duty with the US military and it is a day where Americans pay their respects, often by visiting cemeteries or memorials. It has been my honor in past years to play patriotic music in a community band on this memorial day.
John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Families separated by war have much love for one another and prayers go out for protection. This is the love of families that increases in separation. Love of country, family and our way of life are some of the noble reasons for serving in the military.
My son Lance was a marine who served in the Gulf war; Desert Storm.
I had two brothers who were in foreign wars. Don served in the Navy in WW2. Bill was in the Army infantry in the Korean war. An uncle lost his life in the Bataan Philppines during WW2. Only recently were his remains found and identified through science examining the DNA. Out of love and duty men and women serve in the military. Some do not return and some return with scars of body and soul.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Jesus came from heaven, God in a human body. His great love for us, sent him to die for our sins.God who created all things through his son; he sent his son to be our substitute by paying for our sins in a human body. He lives forever and we live with him by faith. This is my memorial.
John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
The command of God is that we believe in his son. The devil is the ruler of the world. Jesus came to take back a people who love God and believe in his son. Our nature changes when we are born again in spirit. He took our sins to the cross and is risen from the grave. By faith in him we become the people of God. The devil no longer controls us. Yes, I am a grateful friend of the Son of God. I remember what he has done for me and for all who believe in him.
