1 Sam 30:1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were
come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and
Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
1 Sam 30:2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
1 Sam 30:3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
1 Sam 30:4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
1 Sam 30:5 And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
1 Sam 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
1 Sam 30:7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
1 Sam 30:8 And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

The enemy had attacked Ziklag, meaning "winding", a city in
south Judah given to David by king Achish of Gath. David and his mighty warriors
had been helping the king of Gath to fight their enemies, because David had
wearied of running from King Saul. Now, the enemy came to where all their
families and belongings were in that twisted place and had taken everything
precious from them. Have you found your self confused and stricken in a winding
place? All of David's mighty men blamed him, so he had no where to turn, but to
the LORD. David encouraged himself in the LORD and then he inquired of the LORD
what to do.
When the enemy attacks you, your sense of well being, your
finances, your health, your loved ones then do as David and encourage yourself
in the LORD. Take your crooked place of life to the straight path of the LORD.
Seek encouragement in the word of God, in the Psalms. Then seek direction from
Jesus, the Word of God. The Father knows what you are to do. Have courage to
wait on him and to do what he says. His still small voice will lead you, when
you come to him, meditate on his word and seek his direction. It will be
alright, just stay close to him as you walk the straight way. Keep going and you will experience restoration and blessings. Has God ever failed you?
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
