Baptism

Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Water Baptism was given by John the Baptist.

Mar 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Water baptism is still commanded, but with the profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Water baptism is the sign of the new covenant.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Jesus received the Holy Spirit following water baptism

Mat 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Mat 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

The Holy Spirit came to his disciples at Pentecost

Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The baptism of Jesus is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Ghost. The Spirit brings gifts and he is the power to witness. It is important first to be received of Jesus by faith in him. This followed by water baptism as a public profession of faith. The in filling of the Holy Spirit can come at any time after receiving Jesus. We cannot follow Jesus in the flesh only, we need his spirit to help us to live our new spiritual life.
